NASA 01

These 30 sites will be placed around the Kennedy Space Flight grounds and central Florida during the Mars launch in 2011 and after that for every future launch that contains a radiological payload. ODN's master atenna sets on the Command and Control building where the new RADCC Control Center has been built.

This link describes the spacecraft mission that NASA involved ODN in; to set up a radiation detection network using satelite real time monitoring to protect the public in case something went wrong on launch. Plutonium is a great power supply for such a large spacecraft... but not a substance that can be released into the atmosphere for any reason.

2011 is the current launch date. This will be the first live use of this network. ODN will have been involved with this project for over 4 years by launch.
