The Company:

The ODN management has been involved in the satellite communications industry for 28 years. In that time, our team has gotten the chance to use satellite technology for many different and important uses. But after 9/11, we listened to our customers, many who are involved in emergency response and that dialog shaped our future. ODN was formed to develop and package the best technology available, to rapidly restore communications to affected customers during emergencies.

We realized it wasn’t all about satellite dishes and racks of electronics, it was about developing a satellite based network to connect to, that was designed around the needs of emergency responders. It was also about the human element. Training in the use of satellite technology has also become critical to the successful deployment of the technology when needed in an emergency.

We have now specialized in performing these services for military, state and corporate clients. We have deployed many of our products and satellite networks with the State of Louisiana, the State of Missouri, NASA, Air Force, Border Patrol, as well as several other elements of state and federal responders while corporations use our technology for primary connectivity, as well as emergency backup. Our crew travels to all corners of the country to provide custom satellite based solutions for all types of connectivity needs. We have constructed and now operate one of the most successful, privately held, emergency communication network via satellite that exists today.

We are technically qualified and have distribution agreements for the following different technologies;

  • VSAT satellite networking with specialty in trunking and encrypted services
  • Custom satellite services and fabrication of equipment
  • Emulation of legacy telecommunication links
  • SLE VPN Encryption Technology
  • Auto Acquisition VSAT systems
  • IP satellite emergency backup systems, for mission critical radio mobile radio networks
 Company Background:

Mr. Greg Heifner is one of the pioneers in the satellite industry. Beginning in 1980, Heifner Communications broke new ground in the industry, and then in 1999, became Orbital Data Net. Orbital Data Net, Inc. (ODN) is well established in providing solutions to educators, governments and commercial enterprise.  As the leading providers of satellite programming and technology throughout the 90's, our group has become well versed in using technology to solve unusual problems. We established standards in the distribution of satellite television channels to commercial markets. We co-developed and distributed the first "stacked LNB" technology as well as the first fiber optic distribution system designed for digital broadcasters such as DirecTV. Over the years, Heifner Communications and now, Orbital Data Net, Inc. have interfaced with corporate, state and federal governmental entities on a variety of projects. Orbital Data Net has participated in drills conducted by the National Guard as well as elements of FEMA and SEMA.

Orbital Data Net has finished the first phase of the Louisiana Emergency Satellite Communications Network for the Louisiana Department of Public Safety. This project was a result of an open bid process. Our novel approach, experience level and price won this project for us.

Orbital Data Net has extended this network now to agencies within the State of Missouri. Missouri Department of Transportation and Missouri Highway Patrol have an extensive JPS/Raytheon radio and data networks that are now entirely backed up via ODN’s satellite network.

The ODN Team is deeply qualified to deliver training and consultation to a broad range of customers.  First, ODN has a tremendous level of relevant experience addressing the needs these customers represent.

Most importantly, the ODN Team is completely capable and prepared to deliver a “turn-key” solution, which will seamlessly integrate legacy systems, offer a logical upgrade path and support open architectures in order to minimize the long-term cost of ownership.  In addition, the ODN Team is prepared to offer a system that is highly scalable and provides a solid platform for interoperability.
